2009 Intranet Innovation Awards

My, doesn't time fly. Alex Manchester nudged me the other day and asked if I could help get the word out about Step Two Design's 2009 Intranet Innovation Awards. Now in its third year, the aim of the awards are to:

"celebrate new ideas and innovative approaches to the design and delivery of intranets. The goal is to find these ideas (whether large or small), and to share them with the wider community."

Since this is an Aussie initiative, I'm more than happy to spread the word. You'll find more details on Alex's blog. To date I think the awards have thrown up some interesting winners that reflect great examples of the state of the art, but I'm still waiting for something really innovative in the intranet space - maybe this is the year?

Perhaps part of the challenge here is throwing off the baggage associated with the word "intranet"... what do you think? What does intranet innovation mean to you?

    Thanks for spreading the word, James, and that is an interesting thought about state of the at versus really innovative. I'd argue that there have been some very innovative entries (speaking intranet news for postmen, accessed via a toll free number, stands out as unique!), but the bar is being pushed ever higher. :-)

    We've also got a blog post due to publish later this week on what we're looking for with regards to innovation and how previous winners have fared in the judging (as well as a huge roundup of previous winners, available on the site).

    It's good advice to not think about your "whole intranet" but about the tools and applications within or on it.

    I've high hopes we'll see more fantastic entries this year.

That reminds me James, as I read your post I promised Alex some feedback on a recent presentation Apple gave about the iPhone Corporate Directory application in use at Australian legal services firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques. The press release here: http://www.mallesons.com/search/search-hithighlight.cfm?hitURL=news/articles/9551177W.htm&keyword=peoplefinder refers to the application being for BlackBerry but in the presentation I saw from the Apple rep last week, it was definitely on iPhone too. Alex had asked about as a potential candidate for StepTwo's Intranet Innovation Awards.

    I'll be taking this post over to Alex as well :-)
